3 Simple Ways To Create Ads That Convert

If there’s one thing to know about me, it’s that I’m all about teaching simple and easy ways to use ads to grow your business and reach more ideal clients.

Because the truth is, I see too many people overcomplicate the process, thinking they need to be marketing wizards to get results with ads.

But here's the kicker: effective advertising isn't about complex tactics or insider secrets. It's about embracing simplicity and using straightforward strategies that anyone can tap into– yes, even if you're not a seasoned marketer!

So for today’s blog post, I want to talk about a few simple but powerful concepts that you can apply to your ads to make them convert like crazy.

But first, it’s important to understand the anatomy of an ad and the process that your audience goes through when they first see it pop up on their newsfeed.

The 3 main parts of an ad include your ad copy, your creative (the image or video), and your headline.

Your creative is always the first thing that your audience sees and will pay attention to so it’s arguably the most important part of your ad.

After your creative, your audience will then read the headline (if the ad is on Facebook).

Then they’ll read the copy if your creative and headline have done a good job of intriguing them to learn more.

So when it comes to order of importance, I like to think that your creative is #1, your headline is #2, and your ad copy is #3.

With that in mind, here are 3 simple yet powerful concepts that you can apply when creating your ads to ensure that they convert:

#1 - Show Versus Tell

Here's a little secret – people believe what they see more than what they hear or read. So instead of just telling your audience how fantastic your offer is, show them in your ad creative. Use before-and-after photos, a behind-the-scenes video, testimonials, or a creative mockup that shows them what your offer looks like.

Visual proof when it comes to your ad creative is a game-changer. It transforms your offer into a tangible reality, making your audience think, "Omg, I need this in my life!"

#2 - Clear Over Clever

Don’t get me wrong, I love how creative we’ve all become when it comes to naming our offers but when it comes to your ad and more specifically, your headline, being crystal clear will always trump being clever. You only have a few seconds to stop your audience with your ad and if it’s not completely clear what you’re offering and what the benefit is, you can bet that they’re going to keep scrolling.

For example, which of these headlines would you be most likely to click on:

Headline 1: Streamline Your Business & Double Your Revenue

Headline 2: Go From Busy To Breakthrough

I know for me, I’d be more likely to click on Headline 1 because it’s 100% clear what I’m going to get versus Headline 2 where it may sound more clever, but I’m not totally sure what I'll get.

Remember, your headline is the make-or-break moment. It's what hooks your audience and gets them to stick around for the full story. So, keep it simple, straightforward, and directly tied to your offer.

#3 - Attract and Repel

The goal of your ad copy is not just to convince the person who’s reading it to click on your ad, it should also be a magnet for your ideal customer and a repellant for non-ideal ones. This is why being very specific about who your ad is for and who your offer can and can't help is key.

One of my favorite ways to do this is to use the “If You’re” method where you call out exactly who your ideal customer is and they problem or results they are desiring. This approach ensures that your ad resonates deeply with the right people, making them feel like you're speaking directly to them. Plus, it saves you time and resources by qualifying and filtering out those who aren't a good fit.
